A visit to the zoo can leave you wanting to know all about tigers. Tigers are one of the earth’s most majestic animals, and one of the most impressive and largest of all of the big cats. There are some facts about the tiger’s diet and natural habitat that are incredibly interesting and will leave you wondering why you have never tried to find out more about this beautiful cat.

If you want to know all about tigers, a good way to start is to learn more about their habitat. Tigers originate from Eastern and Southern Asia and are not found anywhere else on the planet, unless they are in a Zoo. There is more than one type and these different types are found in different zones. Tigers are extremely adaptable animals and you can find them in forests, dry desert-like areas and even in swamps. They are often found in areas that are very close to where people live. This has meant that they have been hunted, or have caused problems in populated areas. Sadly, the facts are that of the nine species of tiger, three are already extinct. The remaining six species are also endangered. Their habitat has also been reduced because of deforestation and the use of land for agriculture and housing.

Their diet is extremely diverse and depends on the region they live in. As the largest of the big cats they are pretty much at the top of their food chain. Tigers have extremely large sharp teeth and if you are the animal they set their sights on it is unlikely you will get away. In India, they are likely to eat buffalo, water buffalo, boar and deer. In Siberia they eat deer and moose. These giant cats will eat whatever they choose and have even been known to eat snakes and crocodiles, and also smaller animals like monkeys and birds. Those powerful jaws are inescapable and tigers are incredible hunters.
