Tigers – A few facts about the big cat will include the fact that they can grow to be approximately 1.8 to 2.8 meters in length and they can weight nearly 300kgs. Out of all the animals, tigers are the largest cats and one of the important facts that you may not have known is that the black stripes on the tiger’s coat provides them with camouflage within their habitat. White tigers are the same species too, even though many people think that they are sub-species. Their diet mainly consists of pigs, wild deer and other cattle; however, there have been reports of tigers attacking but not eating, rhinos, bears, elephants and wolves.
In some cases, the diet of the tiger may also consist of domestic livestock, and even less common than that is for the tiger to become a man-eater, but tigers – a few facts about the big cat, will tell you that they have indeed killed humans before, but this is when humans interfere with their habitat. The tigers you see at the zoo are not the wild animals we talk about here; at the zoo they are confined to a small area, do not hunt their own food and they are tame…….ish. Therefore, they are very different from their family members and the rest of their species who live out in the wild, and they cannot really be put into the same category.
Another one of the interesting facts about these animals is that they are right at the top of the food chain. There also used to be eight sub-species of the tiger, but many of these are now extinct, all eight sub-species are; the South China tiger, the Javan, The Caspian, The Bali, the Indochinese, the Sumatran, the Siberian and the Bengal. Tigers – a few facts about the big cat tell you everything you need to know.
